Every patient on our unit has a private room to recover in an intimate and peaceful environment. Our goal is to assist each patient to become as independent as possible so they may return home and re-enter the community.
Johnson Memorial Acute Rehab Unit (formerly Todd-Aikens Rehab Unit) is located on the second floor of Johnson Memorial Hospital. The patient's care and experience are the top priorities of the rehabilitation team. Patients are provided individualized care, given personal attention and have consistent caregivers. The unit offers spacious private rooms and has a total of 11 beds.

A Supportive and Coordinated Program
Our unit is under direct supervision of a medical director who is a physiatrist. Our rehabilitation team consists of nurses, patient care technicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, therapy technicians and social workers. Our rehab team's goal is to provide patients with a supportive and coordinated program designed to maximize their level of function and independence.

Planning for Discharge
Individual care plans are created and followed to help facilitate the best recovery possible. Progress is carefully monitored by the rehab team in order to determine the best time for the patient to be discharged from the rehab unit. Care plan meetings are held weekly to discuss:
Stroke Support Group
Individuals who have experienced a stroke and their caregivers are invited to attend our monthly Stroke Support Group meetings. The meeting is held on the Acute Rehab Unit the first Thursday of every month from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a special presentation and a variety activities to help in the stroke recovery journey. Our Medical Director
Virgilio Chan, M.D., Medical Director of ARU, specializes in the rehabilitation of patients with orthopedic issues and neurological conditions such as strokes. Dr. Chan is readily available to discuss each patients care with them and their family.
