Childbirth Education - Weekend Series  
This weekend version of our regular series prepares the expectant mother and her partner for what to expect during the last trimester of pregnancy, labor and delivery. Participants will learn about the labor and birth process including cesarean birth, how partners can help, relaxation and breathing techniques, medications, breastfeeding, and caring for the new baby. A tour of the Maternity Care Center is included. Free to those delivering at Johnson Memorial Hospital; $40 if not delivering at JMH. Classes are held on Saturday from 9a - 1p and Sunday 1p - 5p. Childbirth Education Refresher Class  
Designed for parents who have experienced the birth of one or more children, but need a refresher. Classes are set up on an as needed basis. Cost: Free to those delivering at Johnson Memorial Hospital. For more information, contact Tamara Moore (317)736-2635.
CPR, AED and First Aid Training  
This course teaches participants how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies. These emergencies include respiratory and cardiac problems, sudden illness and injuries like bleeding and broken bones. Skills learned in this course include rescue breathing, first aid for choking, and CPR for infants, children and adults, AED for adult and child, first aid for sudden illnesses, bleeding control and splinting. Cost: $45.00 per person.
2008 Class Dates (classes are held from 6-9:30p all nights): September 8, 9, 10; December 15, 16, 17.
This course does not meet requirements for lifeguards, nurses, physical therapists or other professional rescuers.

Medical Terminolgy  
The purpose of the course is to teach you the meaning of 350 Latin and Greek elements, or word parts. Your knowledge of the 350 elements in this course will enable you to interpret and understand more than 11,000 complex medical terms.
Fee: $35.00
The next classes will begin on September 4; classes meet Thursdays from 10a - 11a, until December 11.

New Beginnings Breastfeeding Class  
Maybe you haven't decided yet or you would just like more information. This class is for you. Learn about the functions of the breast, preparation for breastfeeding, techniques of breastfeeding, going back to work issues and problem solving techniques. Minimum enrollment: 5 persons. Safe Sitter  
Safe Sitter is a medically accurate babysitting preparation program designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. The nationally recognized program teaches sitters how to have fun with children as well as how to recognize a medical emergency and know the appropriate action to take. You learn how to handle specific ages, prevent problem behavior, and even the business of babysitting. Fee: $30.00. Class dates in 2008 (held from 9a - 4:30p): August 9. Sibling Preparation  
This class is for big brothers and sisters-to-be ages 3 - 10; parents participate with children. Children learn the value of their new position, and care and safeguard issues for infants. The goals of the class are to promote positive feelings for the sibling toward the new baby, as well as increasing the parent’s awareness of their older child’s feelings. Minimum enrollment: 5 persons; maximum of 10. Registration required and payment received prior to class.
Cost: $5 first child, $3 each additional child

Stop Smoking  
Classes are available, free to Johnson County residents, sponsored by Partnership for a Healthier Johnson County’s Tobacco Control Action Team. Johnson County residents completing this class will receive a $30 nicotine replacement voucher from Franklin Kroger Pharmacy, compliments of the Johnson County Health Dept. Classes are held monthly.
