Bariatric Surgery in Feb. 2002, 110 pounds lost

BeforeAfter

I have struggled with my weight since the age of six. Prior to that I was the thinnest of the six children in my family, picking up the nick names "bean pole" and "string bean". But once my tonsils were removed, everything changed.

As I grew up I gained more and more weight, despite a very active schedule in school that included competitive swimming and golf. Like other members of my family, though, the struggle to control my weight was always there.

As I grew into my twenties I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, coupled with my family's history of heart disease and diabetes, I was constantly working to reduce my weight.

The result was a seemingly endless string of weight losses and weight gains. I felt like a true failure and became convinced I would spend the rest of my life as fat and over weight.

Initially I rejected the idea of bariatric surgery after Dr. Lindsay began performing the roux-en-Y gastric by-pass procedure. I saw that as the easy way out for those lacking the willpower and commitment to take control of their lives.

That attitude soon changed as I began working with Dr. Lindsay and her patients at JMH. I was impressed with the results seen by her patients and the changes that resulted in their outlook, their health and their life style.

Those are the things I wanted and in February of 2002 I had my surgery. Since then I've lost over 100 pounds. I no longer take blood pressure medications, my health risks for heart disease and diabetes have been reduced dramatically and I'm healthier now than at anytime in my life.

It's the best decision I've ever made.

I feel fortunate that I've been able to take control of my weight and my health, and that I'm in a position to help others do the same. I'd like an opportunity to help you too.

Sincerely,

Eileen Williams, R.N.
